Around 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland were left without power on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems impacted the region, generating strong winds reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Hailstones and Extensive Damage

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to seven centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 residents in the southern state also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams handled 598 requests for assistance across the region, primarily for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

At one point on the previous day, over 28k power users in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were predicted to continue along much of Queensland's east this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued thunderstorm potential predicted across various areas of both regions.

Medical Alert

Health officials warned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
